Beaches B Team Finishes 2nd at 2005 Autumn Classic in Cleveland, OH
Championship game decided by shootout!

The Florida Beaches B team completed their first out of state road trip in fantastic fashion as they finished 2nd in the 2005 Autumn Classic hosted by the Northeast Ohio
Womens Hockey Organization, losing the championship game 6-5 in a heartbreaking shootout.  The Beaches wowed the crowd with their play throughout the weekend,
amazing the fans and other teams with spectacular passing, shooting and even some great body checks. Their strong play was a boost for Florida Women's Hockey as
many people could not believe this was a team from Florida!

The Beaches started off strong Friday evening beating the eventual champions Bowling Green University 5-1 only 2 hours after the Beaches plane from Ft. Lauderdale to
Cleveland landed. The Beaches showed that even after a long flight and 2 weeks of practice interruption due to Hurricane Wilma, they could really play!

On Saturday the Beaches chalked up 2 huge, hard fought wins. In the morning game, the Beaches handed the Windsor (Canada) Bulls a 4-1 defeat. In a penalty ridden
evening game, the Beaches took it to the Rocket Ice Penguins from Pittsburgh 5-1. Both games were very physical but the Florida girls hung tough and dominated both
games gaining the respect of many people in the arena.

On Sunday, the Beaches took on the Bowling Green University Falcons in the Championship game. It was a back and forth game for most of the game but with 10
minutes left in the game, the Falcons had a 2 goal lead. The Beaches came back with goals by Linda Belanger and Sarah Caza, Caza's game tying goal coming with
only 24 seconds remaining in the game.

The game went directly into a shootout, with no overtime period. On the 6th shooter from each team, the Falcons slipped a goal in and the Beaches could not match it.
Game over. The Beaches outshot the Falcons 34 to 21 but fell one goal short.

It was a great tournament for the Beaches and they hope to show more northern teams that Florida women's hockey rocks when they head off to their next out of state
tournament in Midland, Michigan Jan 13-15.
